💥London indie-popper trio deflects "cover-band" label to simply (and impressively) record tunes they grew up loving: ABC, Tears for Fears, Cyndi, R.E.M., Whitney, and Phils Bailey & Collins!🤯
Isn’t it great when artists have the freedom to experiment, play and create beyond the parameters of any mold? Beyond the preconceptions and expectations associated with them? Brilliant piece, as always, and thanks a lot for the mention! I am enjoying the album and it’s great to learn a bit more about the behind the scenes of its creation!
Thanks, Andy! I wholeheartedly agree with your clarion call for artists to think outside the proverbial box! If nothing else, it sure tells us a lot about their influences....which, ultimately helps us understand their original music! I've said that for years....that, if you can find out what your fave artist listens to, or has been influenced by, how much more you'll dig their music!
You'll enjoy The Ramones (to give one example) much more when you know their main influences were the Phil Spector early '60s girl groups, The Beatles and Beach Boys! Now, as for my stumbling upon Iggy Pop in the classical cassette section of a record store in '78, I'm not sure, at all, how to decode that!! But, more on that encounter, is here: https://bradkyle.substack.com/p/pressing-the-flesh-with-iggy-pop Thanks again, Andy!
Thanks, Bryan! I know you'll dig 'em, and you might like their original output on other albums, as well! When I stumbled onto "Easy Cover," though (which they were motivated to record during lockdown), I had to spotlight it!
They're a cheeky bunch worth watching! As I'm putting onto my social media blurbs for the link: "We're stopping just short of rooting for another lockdown, but we ARE rooting for a Volume 2!"
wow, wasnt expecting scouting for girls to get coverage on FR&B! had to run to relisten to This Ain't a Love Song, still one of the best breakup songs ever written i reckon.
SFG is def a band worth eye-balling going forward...they're quite dynamic, and I really enjoyed Stride's personality, and his story behind "Easy Cover"! By now, wing, you should know that the musically dynamic of all stripes, ages, centuries, and genres are welcome past the velvet rope line, FRONT ROW & BACKSTAGE!
I just watched the "This Ain't a Love Song" video, and it was pretty cool. Thanks for stopping by, as always, and I'm glad we were able to scratch where you musically itch! GROW BIGGER EARS!👂
