Plus, a peek behind the NBC-Burbank curtain for Bowie's "Tonight Show" appearance in 1980, AND, new bonus material about the "Moonage Daydream" Ziggy-era song!
Thanks, Glenn! Mad props to Steve and his Earworms and Song Loops for the idea to merge/collab on our respective 'Stack sites! I hope you give his content a gander👀...he's quite creative! https://earworm.substack.com/
As for me, my "wanna see" movies are backing up! I still haven't seen "Elvis," and I'm anxious to see Austin's portrayal...I'm told he's incredible in it! Holler in my general direction, Glenn, if (after seeing "MD") you wanna do something in the collab lane regarding a review...I've got a lot I could add about Bowie's "Ziggy"-era output!🎼🎵🎷🎸🎧💥😉
Ziggy Stardust was such a fun song to play in our band, which I moved away from 2 years ago. I don't regret many things, but leaving the band is def. one of those things...
I can imagine....both being fun to play, and you regretting leaving! When Bowie passed (and I was a nightly karaoke denizen), I did a full week of NBB---nothin' but Bowie! I would've done it with no repeats, but while the karaoke company's database was huge, with many of his songs, I had to repeat a couple of them (happily)!😎🎤
I sing like a fish, however give me a tele and I’m in heaven. I also quite enjoyed Aladdin Sane. I grew up in Windsor, Ont. but we went to all the rock shows in Detroit - late 70’s. Not sure if both Earl Slick and Mick Ronson we’re with Bowie at that time. Gotta love great guitarist bands.
I think there was some overlap in Mick'n'Earl's appearances with Bowie. I just did a brief peek at Ronson's late-'70s/early-'80s career, and it appears he occasionally dropped in on Bowie onstage, while also playing on tracks by David Cassidy, Ian Hunter, Ellen Foley, and others! Flexible in style, he was also highly-sought-after!
Ha - I've heard some velvetty-throated bass and holy mackerel can a tuna carry a tune, but I assume you refer to the tone-deaf octopus. Sorry - Brad is a bad influence with the bad puns. Mick Ronson was the guitarist on Aladdin Sane, and there is some great footage of him in the new doc, and I think of Earl Slick too though I might be misremembering that part.
Really enjoyed this! Thanks. Hoping to see the movie this weekend.

Ahhh, Velvety-Throated Bass, or VTB as we used to call ‘em - great band too
