Thank you, and yes, it's pretty amazing. As I recall from '17, now comes the decision of which Champ merch to buy/afford! Nice problem to have! Then, the hunt for the replica Champ rings the team always gives away at games the following year. Maybe you read my piece ("Horde of the Rings") on how the real ones are made. I'll be dropping one this week on the love of the replica rings by the fans.

I not only have the game-premium giveaway ring from '18, but the rarer (and larger) exact replica of the players' ring! It was produced specially for fund-raising (and in a very short production run!), and I got mine for $125 (around 2019, with proceeds to Salvation Army) at a silent auction at a nearby Culver's restaurant.

It's got the exact same elements as the players' ring, meaning about 4 things the game-giveaway doesn't have....namely a player's name on the side....mine's George Springer (my fave at the time!); it also has the 3 series results (ALDS, ALCS, WS) on the inside (like, 4-3, with the Dodgers' logo, underneath the Red Sox and Yankees series results and logos). It's really a massive ring (no real gold or diamonds, of course)...when people notice Springer's name, I tell 'em...."yeah, George gave me his ring!"

Anyway, parade's today (Mon) at noon (CT). As I'm in Austin, I'll have to look for someplace online that may be streaming it.

Look for a piece on manager Dusty Baker tomorrow...he's actually got TWO major moonlighting jobs away from baseball few know about...plus, he's in biz with the leader of a famous, hit R&B band from (mostly) the '70s, that's been recently featured on these pages!!😱

This was hilarious, for reasons unrelated to the question you asked (for the record, yes, shameless dinero grab). I once wrote a piece about what went wrong with pop in the 70's and 80's, and as examples of the race to the bottom, I cited Captain and Tennille, Barry Manilow, Kool and the Gang and Olivia Newton John. Three out of four match. Who woulda thunk it...🤣🤣 I happen to like the Gypsy Kings, so not sure what that means....

And, the biz's $-grab is what prompted me to do the lead-in on the preponderance of colored vinyl, pic discs, etc. Too much $ leads to wanton excess, and the inevitable blow-back and crash that (as I wrote recently) happened round about '79!

What I want to make sure I do before the ole long-term memory fades is capitalize (by writing about it) on what happened to me based on not only my access to all those promos back in the day, but my near-obsessive desire to ingest copious amounts of liner notes and rock press pieces! In other words, it's doubtful this article could've been even conceived of by just utilizing Google!

Hence, the above! Since most people never knew about the Spanish re-records, I knew I had to pounce! Thankfully, all of it was available digitally!

As for the Gipsy Kings, I never knew much about them, but as I wanted to fill out the Playlist (and Barry, C&T, and Kool were all I remember being available), I discovered the GKs' Eagles cover!

And, Barry? We've got a bit of a December surprise around the corner...an article with a rather stunning "close encounter" with the man, himself! Oops, I've said too much! Stay tuned, Charles!😉

Now, if only Metallica and Slayer had done a bunch of Spanish versions.

You mean they DIDN'T?!? While maybe missing a new marketing niche for each, I wonder how Spanish lyrics would sound slurred, growled, and screamed in that special way that they do!🤷‍♂️
