While not the bio-dad, he raised actress, Liv Tyler. But, few know Todd has two sons who played pro baseball...a sport about which Dad originally knew nothing!
Never heard of him. But good for him for being inducted. I would love to know how the fans did it because fans of David Cassidy have been trying for years.
You owe yourself a deep dive into all things Todd, Laurie! He is multi-talented, and has long deserved his spot in the Hall. Todd has recorded albums where he's played all the instruments, and provided all the vocals (as well as produced)!
He was a video vanguard, becoming an influential player of the merging of artist and video, even pre-MTV, and incorporating computer usage into recording and even live performance. He's been a prolific and highly-sought-after producer for others for decades, including albums by Meat Loaf ("Bat Out of Hell"), Hall & Oates, XTC, Badfinger, The Band, and many more!
AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine says it best: "Todd Rundgren's best-known songs – the Carole King pastiche 'I Saw the Light,' the ballads 'Hello, It's Me' and 'Can We Still Be Friends,' suggest that he is a talented pop craftsman; but at his core, Rundgren is a rock & roll maverick.
"Once he had a taste of success with his 1972 masterwork 'Something/Anything?,' Rundgren chose to abandon stardom and, with it, conventional pop music. He began a course through uncharted musical territory, becoming a pioneer not only in electronic music and prog rock, but in music video, computer software, and Internet music delivery as well."
The 3 songs he mentions, as well as the "Something/Anything" album, Laurie, I highly recommend as a very accessible "starter kit" to introduce you to Todd.
