Stephen pens a tune with the gal who provided lyrics to two songs on Carole King's iconic 1971 "Tapestry" LP, an album which garnered 4 Grammys in 1972, and has sold 25 million + copies worldwide.
Well, and that's my militant "fist in the air," that just because Stephen isn't on everyone's lips like Bon Jovi or Journey doesn't mean he's not talented! I'll wave that flag furiously, in general, and with Stephen, specifically, til the day I die!
I mean, the talent level of the musicians he played and wrote with is astounding. THEY knew and know the talent Stephen possesses, and this demo series, "Off the Clef," certainly proves it! Coming up are the songwriting info and attendant demos from the collabs with the living legend, Jeff Barry, and David Pomeranz, who has TWO Manilow hits to his credit! And, that's just THIS week!
Thankfully, after his mid-'70s RCA pop/rock star derailment, Stephen held true to his gifts and talents, and carved an impressive, multi-decade singing/songwriting/guitar-playing career in the children's music lane, both solo and with the trio, Parachute Express! That's the ultimate inspiration in his story, and that'll be unfolding in the coming months....and, glad you're on board, FC!πΆππ
Thanks, Valerie! I'll see that Stephen sees your kind words! What's cool (and Stephen alluded to this in the article), is that he and Janice worked for many years as 2/3 of the Parachute Express, entertaining children and their parents for decades! This recording was an early peek into their vocal and musical compatibility and expertise!
You're in for quite a treat in the coming weeks, too---we've got 4 more exclusive, rare, and never-before-heard demo recordings in the proverbial "can," just waiting to be sprung! Stay tuned!
Well, thank you, too, for your rec! I'll give you a hint at what's dropping Tuesday if you promise not to spread it around! In the late '70s, Stephen wrote a song with the legendary Jeff Barry!
A member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, as well as the R'n'R HOF, Barry is a key creative "brick" in Phil Spector's '60s girl group "Wall of Sound"! Barry, among many others, co-wrote hits like "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Chapel of Love," and "Be My Baby"!
Plus, the fully-produced demo of the Barry/Schwartz song that you'll hear was actually produced by Barry, as well! Now, remember......shhhhh.π Glad you're on board for the fun, Valerie!
That's one hell of a demo β and it's live?! Wild. Could release that as-is! Really appreciate you shining a light on this talent.

Schwartz & Hubbard sound amazing there. So much depth and character to the vocals and a great interaction between the two.
