The song-span of this bird is a jaw-dropping 60 years! From 1965 to just a few weeks ago, our time pieces of choice run the gamut from an encyclopedia to a stop-watch!
Another great Tune Tag! I love how eclectic this one was. I didn’t know about the Verve/Stones lawsuit saga, so that was quite interesting to read about.
Also can I just say, when Brad pulled off that Agua de Beber track… just in case anyone thought the King of Tune Tag didn’t have any more tricks up his sleeve! 😂
Love the Roosevelt and Mary Timony songs --now I want to listen to more from both of them.
Enjoyed going back to 1965 and the Agua de Beber tune I remember well. I'd love to watch Mr Buddwing too -- never heard of it but always enjoyed James Garner.
Who knew TV sitcom wunderkind Chuck Lorre also wrote a hit song? Good find, along with Greg Calbi. The seventies are the new fifties in terms of creative output.
Another fun Tune Tug! I really loved that Faye Webster song! I had never heard of her, so thanks, Jeremy, for that one. Good to see you get Roosevelt in there too, Brad. You were the one to turn me on to him/them last year. And as a Mary Timony fan, I was happy to see her in the mix as well. I loved her (short lived) stint with supergroup Wild Flag (Carrie Brownstein, Janet Weiss, Rebecca Cole and Mary Timony) on top of all her other projects.
I had never heard that Debbie Harry song before. I liked it - as a product of the '80s, I don't mind the ultra-compressed production so prevalent in that decade. Though chances are I'll never intentionally play it again.
Fun to have both the contemporary songs and the trip back to 1965.
I still need to listen to the last 3 songs, but a few notes.
The only song I knew previously was "Bittersweet Symphony" (which is one that I always remember when I hear it, and then fades from my memory when I'm dong). I'm sure I've heard the Jobim before but not enough to enough to remember it clearly.
"Underdressed at the Symphony" is good. The most fun song for me was "Illusions" which has a very classic rock feel to it. His singing on the chorus reminds me very strongly of an 80s song, but I can't place which one yet. The pairing of "Hard Latin" and "Agua De Beber" was good. I liked both of them, and they went well together.
I had no idea Jeremy worked in the Mount Sinai system. The connection to Jobim is sad, but an interesting one.
Thinking about hospitals reminded me of this powerful video in which Randy Newman talks about a song that he wrote which originally came from a story about his brother's work as an oncologist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plZTRRaUov4

Fantastic job all around, guys!

Great back and forth, a ton of rabbitholes to dive into, thanks fellas!
"No Thirds" is also a good recommendation, very nice.
