Remember Pop Rocks? Blue Razz was the nazz, natch! Well, we got a little pop, and a little rock in our Tune Tag today! You may actually discover a new fave flavor!
Another fun TT, fellahs! And great to meet you, Matt. I didn't know Lilys (though the name was very familiar) but really dug that song and especially the video (and your goat video idea too, Matt).
I was happy to see The Three O'Clock get a nod here! Was super into them in the '80s, in my short-lived paisley phase, but after that as well! I think I still have one of their albums in my collection....also happy to see the Prince "Neon Telephone" connection! I didn't know about that one!
Seems Wilco, the Tweedy family and Mavis have become 'staples' of this tune tag, which is always a good thing. I wasn't familiar with The Quick or The Lickerish Quartet, so thanks for those additions, Brad! (Happy to learn of Roger Manning's connection! Just saw him playing with Beck, along with Jason Falkner and orchestra).
And lastly, as Mutations is my favorite Beck album, I was very happy to see "Lazy Flies" make it here. Though I was unclear on the connection between this and The Quick. You see, I'm "slow" on the uptake...
Despite an American record deal (Warner Bros) for at least one album, U.S. audiences have virtually no working knowledge of the band! Thank you, radio! I suppose they coulda/shoulda been an "art-rock British Talking Heads" equivalent, but, DF seemed to be too quirky for FM, and not traditionally catchy enough for AM!
I suspect, too, domestic Warners had little-to-no idea about how to market them successfully. After all, they were too busy at the time making sure their Fleetwood Macs and other anchor artists kept heads above water, while dealing with the new glut of "this whole new wave thing" with their relatively new Sire distribution acquisition.
All of that, Penny, is why we're glad you're here effectively deaf-schoolin' us radio-deprived 'Mericans about the UK bands U.S. radio couldn't be bothered with playing back in the day! Glad we were able to uncover for you some of Ritchie's other record-biz dabblings!
Thanks, Keith! You're more than welcome for the link-add! Still one of my favorite #MusicStack moments! You just had to MENTION Danny and Phil ('cause nobody else has/would), and I'd-a sent folks to it...but, an interview?!? You betcha!😁👍
I don't think I've heard any of these tunes before, so this was an ear-opening TT for me.
"A Nanny in Manhattan" and "Fadoodle" were so much fun. (I'm not sure I've ever heard 'that' called a fadoodle before, and the theme of this song reminds me of Van Halen's "Finish What Ya Started." I do enjoy humorous songs about 'a man creatively trying to persuade a woman to get it on.' )
Great to learn about Matt's arrival on substack. Yeah, Jersey!
Dang, Ellen.....8 new songs! Cool! "Fadoodle" for me, reminds me of how creatively pop Jellyfish was in the early '90s, with the "Quartet" having 3 former 'Fish members (at various times)! I'd love to hear Roger's (or anybody's) reasons as to how "Fadoodle" came to be as a euphemism, and how it made it into a song!
I'm glad The Tag was part of welcoming Matt to the 'Stack!! Welcome, Matt!
Hey Matt and Brad.👋 Interesting song choices today. Pop is fun and light, which is why today is appropriate for fun and light. I liked The Lickerish Quartet. Probably the band spelling as much as the tune! 🎸
Thanks, Paul! Matt was fun to work with on this one! As for The Lickerish Quartet, before there was a Jellyfish in 1990, a couple of those same guys were in a pop band called Beatnik Beatch!
Well, the Poles are open today....for some reason, they've always been an upfront and forthcoming people who enjoy regattas....and, the boats are in! Pun-ishing Paul, I'm afraid, was among the boaters' top concerns in the race!
8 Poles grabbed 4 poles to reach the light fixture, but not before taking 6 polls to measure public reaction to the changing of the bulb in the first place. This, of course, is all per the info extracted from a local polecat. So........8?

Thanks Steve! Nice to meet you! I read on The Quick’s Wikipedia page that Beck’s father was a Producer for them so that was my connection.
Ah! Got it. Cool connection.
Great TT, guys! Nice to meet you, Matt, and welcome to Substack!
I loved the connections you guys made. It’s impressive how you both managed to find multiple tags in most if not all cases, which is not always easy!
Thanks for some Mavis, Brad!
And thanks for telling that phone anecdote, Matt! Remember the days when we used to look up our idols on the phone book? 😂😁
Always nice to see a mention for Deaf School. And I didn't know that about Ian Ritchie.

As Little Miss Muffet used to say, "Some people have a whey with words (others have curds)"!
stop pun-ishing me Brad...

Which begs the question: how many polls does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
