Man, Lisa had a way more legit singing career than I would have imagined. My aunt has still never forgiven Clint Black for marrying her… but it sounds like it was meant to be!

Yep, no doubt, Lisa had da goods, both with her voice, and certainly her beauty! Despite the involvement of Jeff Barry (he of TWO Halls of Fame...Songwriters AND Rock and Roll!), I think history is showing us she was the victim of relatively weak material (see our recent Lynda Carter article for another entry in Pop's Pantheon of Pretty Princesses Sans Strong Songs, for another)!

By the way, FR&B readers, you would do well to peruse and subscribe to Dan's Jagged Time Lapse Substack entry! You might drop the needle on his recent, "Goofy Greats," where he expounds on all things novelty tunes & bubblegum🎶(and I don't mean Hubba-Bubba)! It can be found here:

Slow down, speedy Gonzales! I finally am able to catch up (mostly) to your prolific output (and I'm not just talking about bowels) and then I look up and there are 5 more pieces I haven't read yet. You need to record a voice over version of your posts so I can just listen to them when I'm walking the dogs. You have the voice for it!

And way to downplay the Lisa Hartman dating lede! What, no photos? That's what AI is for! Or Photoshop.

Gettin' a little personal, aren't we? I don't mind you commenting on where I place my punctuation and consonants, but discussing my vowel movements in public? "I'm afraid that's a bridge too far," to quote my oft-inaccurate and clumsy dentist.

You're right about the voice overs! I'll work on that! As for Lisa, bless her, she's happy and busy with Clint and daughter, and likely doesn't want to be reminded of her jr. high days! Bringing up AI, though, makes me think I can just place her in that photo with me and The Ramones (to your left)!

Good work as always, Brad. I'm just glad she was able to work through the twin traumas of seeing Dick York replaced by Dick Sargent and 80's hair to have continued success in later life.

Thanks, Patrick! Reckon it's a toss-up....enduring the curiously unexplained replacement of actors in a sitcom to suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune during the AquaNet decade! Holy chlorofluorocarbons, Batman!

I’m 9 years younger than you Brad, so Tabitha hit when I was 12. Had a huge crush on Lisa, especially after learning she was from Houston. Also, when I worked on the features desk at the Chronicle, she was then in Knots Landing, and we had a running bet on how many times Maxine would mention her in a month!

Oh, that's funny! I'm glad you rang in on this one, Glenn!....I knew you'd have some input re: Chron and Houston-related! Oh yeah, Maxine had about as much of a "crush" on Lisa, PR-wise, as you did on Lisa!

And, it WAS all a big deal, real-time! I always wondered, at 19, if Lisa had to be told of the genius track-record of her producer, or if she was hip to his legendary status at the time! I have no prob giving her the benefit of the doubt, though! And, she was beyond sweet to arrange a meeting for me with Jeff in '80, right after I moved to L.A. from Houston! Now that we've nailed down Jeff's production template (with Stephen's songwriting experience to add to the equation), I just realized if I had had a handful of songs (if I was a songwriter!) to present to Jeff that day, he maybe coulda signed me!!!😱

Lisa's impossibly cute, no question! Dimples galore, and a wonderful personality! We found it ironic, in the '90s, that her hubby has the same name as my bro.....Clint! We've always joked that she married the "wrong" Clint!

In the '80s, we knew Lisa had gotten an apartment in (at least) one of those high-rise apt buildings on upper Sunset, near where Jeff had his offices, and Dick Clark, too, had offices (near the Whisky, Tower Records, the Roxy, etc)! Dang, those were fun days! In the early '80s, I even took an interview with an exec at Scotti Bros. Records...my lone lame attempt to work at a label!

Scott Baio had just been signed to Scotti Bros.....ooh, there's an idea for a new Video to Vinyl!! Thanks again, Glenn! Coming soon.....my meeting Maureen McCormick ("Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!")....nope, we didn't date, but HOW we met is the story! As I know you will......STAY TUNED!
